This is for the 2nd Annual Sailor Moon Redesign Contest organized by
Apologies for the pose and lack of hands, I didn't use a reference, and I only noticed how awkward she looked when I'd started inking... raaaah!
Okaay.. right, so I added a bit more sailor to her fuku, giving her more of a naval officer type look, but keeping the femininity... which adds (IMO) a bit of a pirate-wench edge... (which I only noticed when I finished!).
I gave her a sailor hat (with winged moon motif) and moved her buns a little further down her head to make room for it, and added red pearls and white wings in place of her old hair accessories.
Like I said, I didn't want to make the costume too masculine looking, so I gave the sleeves and neckline more of a dress style, and added more bows (neckline, stockings and ankles) to make up for the lack of sailor collar (I figured if I'd given her a sailor collar as well, it would have been Sailor Overkill... ).
However, with the addition of the bows on the neckline, one big bow in the middle would have looked ridiculous, so I went with the classic crescent moon motif to balance it out. I kept the back bow though.
I took away her boots as I didn't think they went with the outfit, and besides, this is a !redesign! contest... to keep the boots would have been lazy. So, I designed her some new shoes and stockings.
Gloves would have been overkill also, so she is bare-handed. Her tiara is also gone in place of a crescent moon. (Who wears a hat AND a tiara at the same time!?)
Going with the naval officer theme, I gave her a sword which hangs by her side, and doesn't just appear out of thin air, like all her old weapons seem to do.
I kept the original color scheme (red, blue, yellow, white) as I wanted to keep her recognizable and the new costume more easy to accept for hardcore SM fans. I hope they can see the things I changed drastically, I did in the name of fashion! I do not want to be responsible for an ugly-ass costume, and I think this is decent and would be fun to wear.
I love necklines like that, that's exactly why those little bows work so well on it ^^V.
Ah, sword . The piercing, the grabbing and stroking the hilt . But, yes, double entendre aside some healthy sword fights are aptly heroic .
I'd be very curious to see the redesign of her S and Eternal look. Especially the Eternal one (I was never a big fan of it admittedly XD. The Super look and the first original costume were respectively more elegant - the transparent sleeves *_* - and less tacky colour-wise. The Eternal fake wings >.< were great for comedic purposes, but why not real usable wings? XD )
a top and skirt are great
SWORD indeed!
Thanks for drawing my attention back to this piece, its made me thought of redesigning her Super and Eternal looks to go with this one.
